When Living Becomes Forever, a novel by Douglas Q. Grossa
Picture
When Living Becomes Forever, a novel of life and death, loss, and love. The story is laced with a bit of wit along with triumphs and tragedies. It brings Roman history into the present, colliding with and challenging views of peace, politics, and religion.

Dr. Matthew Falcone claims to be a man who has lived 2,000 years when he meets Sarah in 1974. She falls in love with him and while he draws her into his life, he tells her of his genetic and physiological anomalies. He takes her into his past, attempting to prove to her that his tales are true. Sarah helps write his story, researching his parchments and scrolls that date from before Christ’s birth. As she inquires and writes, she questions Matthew’s accounts. Time passes and he attempts to convince her of his aging and re-aging physiology.

Matthew’s yarn starts and finishes again and again while he draws the reader into the facts and fantasies of his reality. His story ends in the Twenty-first Century only to bewilder the reader into the possibility that his saga could be true. In the end, you’ll ponder, “Is the story over?”

About the Author:

Doug has lived in Thailand and Australia. He has made five world circumnavigations, journeying through over one hundred countries. He claims that his travels and his wife Sally were the motivating factors for writing When Living Becomes Forever. Many chapters were written on six of the seven continents. From those places, Doug used the social, historic, and geographic fabric to challenge life’s dilemmas of aging, death, life, and love.

While the world has been Doug’s oyster, many chapters were written in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Doug believes that Mt. Pleasant, where he made many friends and met Sally, helped stir the ingredients for this novel. Marquette, Michigan was also a key to his inspirations. It’s a place in the world equal in beauty and awesome wilderness to anywhere he has traveled.

Doug and his wife Sally Shumway presently live in New Port Richey, Florida.

Doug's Novel will be available on-line in early 2026
